Well, it’s been a busy month, and of course I can’t figure out why. Between my finger that’s been healing nicely, ear infections, coughs, daily life, etc, it’s been quite hectic.
YY turned 4 last week! We made him a nice cake and got him a little something, until we get to London where there are better toys (and prices!)
The children have been up to all their usual antics, though they got really good at playing on their own in the morning til I get up. Most of the time we don’t need to worry about them taking the house down, so that’s great.
I’ll have to remember some of the cute stuff they’ve said in the last month and write some of it down. I hope I didn’t forget it all. Meanwhile, here’s a picture of the yummy cake YY got.

Girlie January 19, 2010
R knows she’s a girl. And she won’t let anyone tell her otherwise.
R, are you the cutest?
No, girlie!
R, are you yummy?
No, girlie!
R, are you precious?
No, girlie!
She’s the funniest!
Flying Beds! December 29, 2009
Heard from Abba:
The boys were talking about going to London. They’re quite excited, even though we’ll only be going in a month, and YY will be turning 4 before then!
Abba, we’re going to take our beds with us!
After Abba pointed them in a bit more of a realistic train of thought, it would seem they decided to take pillows with them, to have on the plane. I hope we’ll have place for them all.
And then R seems to be excited herself too! One day when I took her to gan, she said to me,
Sabba, Savta. Airplane! London!
And she put her hands out to fly
whispers December 29, 2009
I was walking R up the steps to her Gan today (it’s on the 4th floor!)
Often, we see our shadows on the walls and R enjoys pointing to hers and mine.
Shaddle! She calls it.
Ima Shaddle
R Shaddle
Today she added
Abba!
No R, Abba’s not here, I told her.
Shul! she said. shhhh.
I just listed and didn’t say anything. We stopped walking. She looked at me and said in a whisper
Quiet
She heard there was only silence around us. Then she went up some stairs, whispering.
Abba, Shul, Quiet! shhhh
Even though Abba wasn’t in shul at that particular time, I didn’t contradict her. She was so cute!
Too cute December 29, 2009
sorry for the long break! We’ve been kind of busy here. And it’s a pain for me to type because I’ve got one finger in stitches (6 if you haven’t heard. Cut thru muscle and nerve with a can of corn… Long story!).
But the kids are too cute to keep quiet any longer.
R especially, is growing up so quick. She’s as girly as they come. She’s very concerned with cleanliness, and will come to get her hands wiped immediately if they get dirty. (well, not while she’s playing in the park, but at home, if she gets dirty).
And she talks about everything around her.
This morning I was walking her to Gan. All of a sudden, she starts repeating a word that sounded like Light.
Light, I asked?
No more lide, she said.
Lide?
lide.
And then she stopped walking.
Don’t you want to come to gan, R?
No. Lide.
It seemed as if Madam wouldn’t budge until I figured out what she was saying. And I had not a clue. I usually understand her fine.
No more lide!
No more light? Where’s the light R?
Lide!
Then I looked around us and it suddenly became clear. We were standing across from a tiny play area. There was a climbing frame there and
no more SLIDE!
R was real happy I’d figured it out.
no more lide!
The slide was taken away a few months ago. And we talk about it every so often. I guess I didn’t realize because I didn’t pay attention to where we were standing.
As soon as I’d figured it out, off we went!
phew!
Strong kid! December 20, 2009
I was sitting in bed reading on shabbos morning when the kids came in and moved my bed somewhat. Annoyed, I asked them to figure out how to push my bed back into place.
They huffed and puffed and pushed the bed with me on it, until finally, the bed actually moved. YM looks up and I said to him
- Well done YM, you’re so strong!
He was rather pleased with himself.
- I did it with my nose!, he informed me
Got Feet? December 13, 2009
This morning I got up to find YY and R pointing at a container of salt. I couldn’t figure out what it was doing out of the childproof cabinet it should have been in. It was near my bedroom, with some salt on the floor.
- How did that happen?, I asked YY
- The salt got feet and it walked here. Then it spilled.
I’m not kidding you, that IS what he said.
I guess we have another budding imagination in the making!
PS: Turns out someone had indeed left the salt out by mistake. Now I have to clean it up. Didn’t do it yet since this morning. The kids will have off for chanukah starting Wednesday. R is already off, but I sent her to a chanukah day camp someone organized until then, when she’ll keep YY and then YM company while they have their time off. Yay for me!
Tonight we’re off to Y and A for a Chanukah dinner party. We absolutely love Chanukah here. Here’s a pic of our kitchen window that looks out to the street!
Mr. Know-it-all December 7, 2009
I was chopping some chicken breasts into bite sized pieces for a “chinese style” dinner today.
I left the table for one second to get something. When I came out, I noticed bits of corn on some of the chicken. Corn that came from a milchig soup R was eating.
Oh no! Well, at least the chicken was ice cold, so I just washed it off, and even threw off the piece that was corn-coated.
I then started telling R how we can’t mix chicken and milk, it’s not kosher. And I casually said to YM who was nearby,
- right we need to teach R, cuz she’s a baby?
- Yes, he answered. And I know everything already!
Babysitters December 6, 2009
On Shabbos, the kids were playing “beds” in the living room. This game consists of putting their blankets and pillows on the floor, and lying down as if they were in their real beds.
At one point, YM says to YY
- Come YY, we’re going.
R was comfortably drinking her bottle in her “bed”, which she’d asked me to set up for her, since she couldn’t get her blanket and pillow out of her crib on her own.
So I asked the boys
- Hey, where are you going? Why are you leaving R?
YM answered:
- Me and YY are going out. Like sometimes you go out. And we’re leaving R with a babysitter.
- What? Who’s going to be the babysitter?
- C. (the girl I usually use to babysit).
What does your Ima do? December 6, 2009
I went to pick up YY from his gan today and had a quick chat with his teacher. It’s nice that I get to see the teachers every day, it’s so much better for me to be in touch on a regular basis. I see what they do in class, can find out if anything’s the matter, etc.
So today, while I had a casual chat with his teacher, she said to me – I just remembered! YY said something really funny today. We asked him:
- What does your mother do (job wise)?
I expected them to tell me he’d said something about computer work.
But YY was quick to answer
- She bakes!
That’s a really lovely way for my son to think of me. A baker! After all, we do spend a lot of time doing that together!
